Bantam AA Trappers earn Youth Team Challenge Award
The Re/Max Legend Bantam AA Trappers earned the Youth Team Challenge Award during the North Bay Regional Health Centre annual Walk/Run fundraiser.
Players and coaches joined 700 participants on Oct.15 to help raise more than $800 for cancer care equipment.
Players displayed their West Ferris Hockey Association pride by wearing their jerseys throughout the five-kilometre run.
“Right from the start of the year team staff got together and we decided as a group to try and get the kids together to do a community fundraising event. What better event than our hospital run,” said head coach Neil Gervais.
Gervais said the experience was more than just raising money for the hospital, it was an opportunity to show players how they can give back.
“Being involved in the community is important. There’s certainly more to a hockey season than just what happens on the ice,” he said. “This was a great opportunity to show them what that exactly means.”
