Re/Max Legend Minor Bantam AA Trappers struck gold at the President’s Day Tournament in Buffalo, NY winning 3-1 over the Yale Bulldogs.

Trappers tied their first game Friday night at the Hyde Park Ice Pavilion against the Buffalo Stars 2-2.

The North Bay team clinched their second game with an 8-0 win over the Cheektowaga Warriors Saturday morning and continued their winning streak beating Niagara Falls 6-1.

With two wins and a tie the Trappers secured a spot in the semi-final game against Wheatfield Blades. It was a tight game until the third period when the Trappers pulled away with it in the third winning 6-2.

“This is exactly how we wanted to conclude our season as we move toward the playoffs and Northern Ontario Hockey Association (NOHA) championships,” said Trapper head coach Neil Gervais. “It was a really good team bonding experience. The hockey action was competitive, but our players worked hard and never gave up. They kept the pressure on with outstanding puck movement and smart plays to maximize on our opportunities,” he said. “It took a real team effort from every player to win this tournament.”

Gervais said the team is thankful to Bob and Bonnie Reichstein of Trout Creek who donated the cost of the coach bus to bring the team to Buffalo.
“These players and parents made memories both on and off the rink.”

The championship team is comprised of Jim Montgomery, Ben Franz, Brandon Barker, Ethan McLean, Emilie Perron, Will McCharles, Nick D’Agostino, Carter Paterson, Cam Harwood, Dallas Landriault, William Waugh-Monette, Patrick Etmanski, Drew Spencer, Nolan Gervais, Austin Presseault, Emma Nadeau and Ryan Marsh.
